Spring Into Employment: Motivation for Job Seekers with Disabilities

Spring is a season of growth, fresh starts, and new opportunities—and what better time to refresh your mindset and refocus your job search? Whether you're just starting your employment journey or navigating a new chapter, this season is full of possibility.

At TVW, Inc, we know how overwhelming job searching can be—but we also know how powerful it is when individuals find meaningful work that supports their independence, confidence, and long-term goals. So if you're feeling stuck, unmotivated, or unsure of where to start, this blog is for you.

Let’s plant the seeds of success and spring into action together!

1. Reflect and Reset

Sometimes we get caught in the cycle of doing without stopping to reflect. Spring is a great time to check in with yourself:

  • What kind of job would make you feel fulfilled?

  • What tasks or environments help you thrive?

  • What skills have you gained—even outside of work?

Your journey is unique, and your goals don’t have to look like anyone else’s. Take time to reflect, reset, and realign with what matters most to you.

2. Update and Refresh Your Resume

Think of your resume as your personal highlight reel—it should grow and change with you. Ask yourself:

  • Have I added recent experience, volunteer work, or skills?

  • Does it reflect my strengths and interests today?

  • Is it easy to read and clearly organized?

Not sure where to start? Ask your job coach or support staff to review it with you. Even small changes can make a big difference!

3. Set Small, Achievable Goals

Job searching can feel like a big mountain to climb—but climbing gets easier when you break it down. Set small, weekly goals, such as:

  • Apply to 2 jobs this week

  • Practice interview questions for 10 minutes

  • Attend one virtual hiring event

  • Reach out to someone for a reference

Each step is progress. And progress deserves to be celebrated!

4. Use Your Support Network

You don’t have to do this alone. Job coaches, mentors, family, and friends can all be part of your team.

Whether it's practicing interview skills, talking through nervous moments, or sharing job leads, support can lift you when things feel hard. Asking for help isn’t a weakness—it’s a strategy for success.

5. Believe in Your Abilities (Not Just Your Resume)

You are more than a job title or a checklist of qualifications. You bring value, perspective, and potential to every opportunity.

Confidence is built with action—and even if you're not where you want to be yet, you're on your way. Keep going. You've already overcome challenges. You’ve already grown. This is just the next step.

Spring reminds us that change is possible and growth is always happening—even if we can’t see it right away. Keep taking those small steps forward. Stay connected. Celebrate your wins. And trust that something new is blooming for you.

If you’re ready to start (or restart) your job search, we’re here to help. At TVW, Inc., we believe in your abilities—and we’re honored to walk this journey with you.
