The Best Job Match Starts With the Person, Not the Opening

There's an open position.

Now you just need someone to fill it, right?

Technically, yes. But finding someone who can fill a position and finding someone who actually fits the position are two very different things. That's why a good employment match starts with the person.

Before looking at job openings, it helps to understand someone's strengths, interests, experience, goals, and preferences.

Do they enjoy working around people or prefer working more independently?

Do they thrive with predictable routines or like having different responsibilities throughout the day?

What kinds of tasks do they naturally gravitate toward?

What environment helps them do their best work?

Transportation, scheduling, communication style, physical requirements, and workplace culture can matter, too.

Then we look at the other side of the equation: the employer.

What does the business actually need?

What does the job require?

What does success in that position look like?

What type of employee tends to thrive on that team?

That's where a job opening can become a job match. This matters for everyone involved.

An employee who enjoys the work and understands what's expected is in a much better position to succeed. An employer gets someone whose strengths actually align with the responsibilities of the role. It also creates a stronger foundation for long-term employment.

At TVW, we're not interested in putting someone into a position simply because there's an opening available. We want to understand the person first. Because getting someone hired is one milestone. Finding a place where they can become a valued part of the team is the bigger goal.
